C’mon America, Be a Fitness Warrior!

I just read an article that reported the 2020 ranking for the obesity rates of all of the USA by state. The highest obesity rate was 39.7% for the worst state, Mississippi, and 24.2% for the best, Colorado. Even the best is terrible though.

How can 24-40% of the state populations be obese? How did we get here? What will we do about it?

The wrong mindset it what got us here! The question is, can America change the collective complacency of settling for things the way they are?

We all know of the many health risks that are associated with being overweight. And, now, the current pop trend is promoting a belief that it is ok to be overweight. I hear it in the culture all the time. It’s like America is doubling down on obesity now in the name of “it’s ok to be comfortable with your body”. What does that even mean? Is it ok to be overweight? We all should be looking for ways to step outside of our comfort zone, and step into fitness results!! I’m sorry but it takes a little pain today to have strength tomorrow.

So, nowadays you have to show a vaccination card to eat at a restaurant, but it’s ok to gorge yourself with giant portions at that restaurant 🤨.

These days, when we consume way more calories than we burn off, well that is ok somehow, because it’s acceptable to be less concerned and less active as long as we are “comfortable in our own skin”. Where I come from we call that a cop out! Can we please lose the “everyone gets a trophy mentality”!? It’s time for America to realign its collective mind! Let’s focus on a more active and higher quality of life.

It’s NOT ok to be overweight! In fact, it is way more deadly to be overweight than the risk of dying from COVID over the long term! In the last three years approximately 900,000 have died in the United States as a result of obesity. It has been an ongoing epidemic in this country for a long time! Sad.

“According to the National Institutes of Health, obesity and overweight together are the second leading cause of preventable death in the United States, close behind tobacco use. An estimated 300,000 deaths per year are due to the obesity epidemic.” (1)

It’s not easy. I get it. We all go through periods of weight gain that we need to address…

The key is to measure what you do for your fitness in terms of the calories that you burn and the calories that you consume. It takes a daily commitment to tracking calorie burn and calorie consumption! Learning how to do this is easy and there are apps that can help. HOTWORX is developing a great new addition to its Burn Off App that will allow customers to track calorie consumption in great detail and in an easy to use way. More to come on that soon…

The calorie tracking is the easy part. What is difficult is the commitment to remain consistent, and the execution thereof. If you want to be healthy, it takes a striking moment of mindset realignment! A new training seriousness is in order.

I find that the best mindset for fitness performance is that of a warrior…a fitness warrior!

One of the best ways to burn more calories is to train like a warrior and to workout in an infrared sauna. I know it may sound daunting to those who have never tried it, and it does take a few sessions to acclimate your body and mind to such an extreme environment…but the results are worth it.

Take on the fitness warrior mentality!

Summon the inner warrior that exist within you. We all have it. It just needs to be discovered. When you realign your mind to a warrior mentality, you will achieve great things in fitness.
