Day After Christmas - The Fitness Counter Attack

It’s the day after Christmas and all through the house, visions of fitness and detox ring out! ’Tis the end of 2020, and collectively we shout…SCREW COVID! It’s time for the counter attack!!

A little levity can help sometimes…😊

But yes, thank God, it’s time for our counter attack in the battle of the bulging holiday waistline. I ran across this information in a recent fitness article:

“According to a study from Wren Kitchens, the average person packs away a huge 5,373 calories during Christmas day. That's twice the recommended daily average for men and three times the RDA for women.” (1)

That is an incredible amount of calories for one day. RDA aside, the average BMR for men is 1800 calories, and for women is 1400 calories. What that means is that we should not eat more than our BMR (basal metabolic rate) if we want to maintain our weight.  If we eat more than our BMR, then we will begin to gain weight. So, on Christmas Day we consume around 3 to 4X the number of calories that we should. After a year like this, though, I think we may all be feeling a little more than the usual Christmas pudginess.

Most of us have taken in too many calories from food and other indulgences leading up to and including Christmas Day 2020. But it’s been extra difficult this year. The pandemic leading up to Christmas has wreaked havoc on our daily routines including our normal fitness and diet habits. In my research for this blog post I ran across evidence of rising obesity and diabetes due to COVID.

“It appears that while we are tackling anxiety due to pandemic, and eagerly looking forward to solutions, basics of diet and lifestyle have been ignored.” (2)

I’ll attempt to speak for us collectively again…Screw COVID!!!

Why not counter attack against the fat and toxicity NOW in our personal fitness battles? There is no need to wait for January, let’s attack now!

I am a big fan the great motivator Tony Robbins. He teaches the importance of taking massive action. Ponder his quote:

It’s time to put 2020 in the rearview. We can all look forward by supplementing our fitness with infrared training into a much better year.
