Dr. Clifford J. Evans, a HOTWORX Franchisee

A couple of weeks ago my blog featured a husband and wife, doctor and nurse team who are franchisees for HOTWORX in the Houston, TX area. This week I would like to introduce another franchise owner, Dr. Clifford J. Evans, DO, who is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon. “His practice focuses on the evaluation and treatment of afflictions of the bones, joints, muscles, tendons and nerves. He has a special interest in sports injuries and working with young athletes. Dr. Evans is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.” (1)

He is also an Army Veteran, and we all want to thank him for his service to the country! “From 2008 until 2012, Dr. Evans was staff orthopedic surgeon at Blancfield Army Community Hospital, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He joined the Army in 1988, and was a pilot in the 101st Airborne, serving in the Gulf War, Hurricane Andrew relief, and in Honduras. He was a flight operations officer in Italy, and a mission commander, instructor, and executive officer in the 160th Special Operation Aviation Regiment. Dr. Evans received his doctorate in osteopathic medicine from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency at Texas Tech University and William Beaumont Army Medical Center.” (2)

I was fortunate to get a chance to speak with Dr. Evans this week. He places a lot of emphasis on the fact that exercise combined with infrared increases blood flow and nitric oxide release. I’ve written multiple times on the positive effects of nitric oxide as a signaling molecule.

"Nitric oxide is a compound in the body that causes blood vessels to widen and stimulates the release of certain hormones, such as insulin and human growth hormone." (3)

He mentioned a list of benefits that included reduction in hypertension, treatment for small vessel diseases, skin condition improvements, and increased blood flow to extremities. Dr. Evans likes to stress the importance of treatments such as infrared to prevent the need for surgeries. He mentioned the fact that when the positive elements of exercise, heat and IR are combined it has a synergistic effect. Each component alone can provide great health benefits but, when performed in conjunction, the whole is greater than the individual parts. The whole is almost always greater than the sum of its parts!

According to Dr. Evans, what we like to call 3D Training, the combination of exercise, heat and infrared energy, can greatly accelerate the healing and recovery process. He also spoke of the low impact approach to training, which is the underlying strategy of the HOTWORX training method using isometrics and HIIT.

To me it says a lot when so many medical professionals believe in a fitness program to this extent. The HOTWORX franchise credits 19 owners who are also doctors including surgeons, chiropractors, general practitioners, and sports medicine specialists.
