Fight Fire with Fitness: Remember Our First Responders this July 4!

I thought it to be appropriate on this 4th of July weekend to write an article in honor of our first responders who contribute so much to all of our communities throughout the country. Most of us recall the incredible bravery of the first responders to the 9/11 terrorists attacks on our freedom. Unfortunately only a few of us know the tragic story of how many of those responders suffered greatly from the exposure to toxicity caused by the destruction. This was on my mind as I travelled to the Ft. Worth, TX area to visit a fire station where we had recently donated and installed a HOTWORX sauna as a part of the Kick the Ash out of Cancer program for fire fighters.

HOTWORX is honored to be recognized by the Haltom City, TX Fire Department for its support in donating and installing HOTWORX infrared training saunas at all three of their stations. On behalf of the company, I was presented with an incredible fire bell that will be displayed with pride at our headquarters in Marrero, LA. Firefighters do a tremendous service for our communities and at great sacrifice to their bodies in the line of duty! They are bombarded with toxic substances and they put themselves at much greater risk for cancer than the rest of the population. This incredibly well organized fire department team in Texas has now incorporated the HOTWORX sauna into their detox protocol. Big thanks go out to all of our firefighters who keep us safe! We are blessed to provide a small measure of help to all of these brave community warriors. Remembers these folks as we celebrate freedom on this 4th of July.

Infrared sauna usage has become a very popular means of an additional way for the body to remove toxic substances. The evidence is very clear that sweating from exposure to an infrared sauna is a method for detox. We certainly recognize that most detox happens through internal organs and removed as waste in feces and urine, and that toxic gas is removed from exhalation. But, a fitness expert is no expert in my opinion unless they recognize that sweating, and especially infrared sweating, is also a means of removal of toxic wastes from the body. The science proves this. It is time for the experts to admit that sweating is an added detox event and not just a body cooling mechanism! If I can detox through sweating even in small amounts then it is worth it to me along with all of the the other benefits of infrared training.

In a 2018 article published by the National Center for Biotechnology Information was reported from an extensive search of medical databases for studies that revealed health results from regular sauna bathing on humans from the year 2000 forward for all types of saunas. Quoting from the conclusion, “Regular dry sauna bathing has potential health benefits.” (1) The article included a compilation of both traditional and infrared sauna research and the data is overwhelming to support the conclusion.

I will let the debate continue to rage over the actual health benefits of sweating out toxins, but for me, the fact that it makes me feel so good to sweat from an infrared workout is evidence enough.

I am not promoting the infrared sauna as the end all be all of detox, but rather it is another effective way to increase detox!
