Infrared exposure, therefore, causes your metabolism to speed up as the waves of energy interact with the cells in your body. This is important, considering that impaired metabolism is associated with obesity. Low-level inflammation is also a contributor to obesity. Compare this fat-burn effect to the melting of candle wax. In the candle-making process, the wax must be heated to its melting point, which is in the 115–120°F range for most types of wax. Fat breaks down as well when your body is heated. (1)
