Warrior, Winner, or Both?

I went to New York City this week to visit with our NYC partners and to take a look at the incredible new location they opened on Broadway in Greenwich Village. While I was there I got in a few workouts and one of them was a Hot Yoga with our legendary VI Ashlee B on the screen. It was in that lunchtime workout that I heard her say something like, “see that W in the HOTWORX logo on your mat? Does that stand for winner, or warrior, or both?” It made me think, and I decided to write about it this week. It also made me do that posture harder and with better form! Thank you Ashlee!!

Do you want to be a winner for your health and fitness? Or, do you want to be a warrior for it? Why not be both?! It boils down to discipline. Can you learn to love the discipline aspect that is required so that you don’t wind up disappointed in your results? Do you show up when you need to be at the gym? Do you strive for excellence with every set?

While you have other fitness centers that promote Tootsie Rolls and sell memberships to hope the customer forgets they have it approach, that is NOT how we promote HOTWORX.

We recognize that you get out of life what you put in. If you put in the work, you get the results. If you put in the Tootsie Roll, you get out the Tootsie Roll.

We want our customers to come in and remember that those dues are worth every monthly penny of it! We want our customers to always know why they joined in the first place. If you put in the discipline to consistency, then you will get the desired outcome. It starts with a commitment to discipline, not a slide towards cheating with a Tootsie Roll.

This past week I had the privilege to be a guest on the Self Love and Sweat Podcast with host Lunden Souza @selfloveandsweat on Instagram. In that interview, she asked me what is my biggest frustration as a CEO. What immediately came to mind was this.

The most disappointing thing to me as a CEO is when I witness business professionals who don’t give it everything that they have. That goes for vendors, franchisees, employees and myself. To me there is nothing worse than a glass half full in business. It’s 100% or nothing. It’s not a 75% is ok in my books. I always tell my team, don’t turn in a “C” paper. You know when you execute an assignment, or when you do a workout set, whether or not you are turning in an “A” paper. Think about whether that performance is getting you to the result that you really want.

If you turn in a poor performance, and, by that, I mean one that is less than your capabilities and skills at the time you do it, then it’s time to take a cold, hard look in the mirror and ask yourself why did I join this gym, or why do I do this job. At HOTWORX we have a KNOW YOUR WHY motivational poster! You joined because you wanted a result. So, stay the course. Show up and be consistent with cross-training and solid workout types!

It’s never a failure in fitness unless you quit. Don’t quit! Find a way to fall in love with the discipline.

Be honest with yourself. Ask yourself in fitness, “Am I really showing up? Am I bringing it every set? Am I on point with my nutrition? Have I really come to understand what it means to PLAY FULL OUT all the time?

Be a WARRIOR and be a WINNER!!!
