HOTWORX welcomes new franchisees, John and Karilynn Whitley, who were awarded 3 franchise licenses in the Detroit market and are currently in Presale at their Ann Arbor, MI (West) studio!
What originally motivated you to consider a business opportunity?
My wife and I began working out at a HOTWORX in Clarkston, MI, our home location, and liked it so much and saw the benefits to us and other members that we decided to start our own franchise, which is something I have wanted to do for a while. I work in IT Sales now and my wife is a loan officer at a credit union. We also run a Real Estate Investment company which we enjoy.
What led you to explore franchising rather than an independent business?
We wanted to try HOTWORX because we believe in the concept, business model, and health benefits to us and all of the members. I believe that HOTWORX offers a great value to its members and is continually trying to improve.
What was your initial impression of your first HOTWORX session?
It was a very challenging workout the first session, but we immediately saw the benefits and were very energized. I continue to share my experience with family and friends so they can see the benefits too.
How was your experience going through the HOTWORX Discovery Process?
We worked with Patricia Gattuso and we both really enjoyed the Discovery Process. I wanted to move a little faster in it and, rightfully so, she slowed me down and made sure I really understood what we were getting into, which I highly appreciated afterward. I am sure she will become a lifelong friend.
How would you describe your Orientation Day and meeting the HOTWORX Executive Team?
Orientation Day was very informative and it was great to meet the team that runs the HOTWORX business day to day. They shared a lot of good information that helped me feel like we were making a very good decision to move forward.
What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs considering the opportunity to franchise with HOTWORX?
Spend time talking with other HOTWORX Franchise owners. I learned a lot from talking with five different franchise owners including picking the right location which is probably the most important decision after acquiring a franchise license. Also, spend a lot of time understanding the health benefits of HOTWORX.

What excites you the most in offering HOTWORX to your community?
The health benefits and the success we will see through word of mouth after we get a solid member base established.
What goals do you plan to accomplish in your first year as a HOTWORX franchisee?
Goal is to have 400 members before Grand Opening with a stretch goal of 500. Within 12 months, the goal is to have 700 members. By the end of the second year, the goal is to have 1000 members.
How will HOTWORX help you achieve your personal and professional goals?
It will allow me to retire from IT Sales within three years to focus on HOTWORX and building it out across Michigan and elsewhere.
