Firefighters battle against untold numbers of toxins as they perform their duty in selfless service to our communities. When battling fires, cancer causing toxins are absorbed by firefighters through their skin and should be removed through detox as soon as possible. “68 percent of firefighters develop cancer, compared with 22 percent in the general population.”

It’s ok. It’s even advisable to practice a variety of workouts within any given week of fitness. What is important is that the individual workouts remain consistent. Nobody wants to get bored with their fitness routine and workouts should remain exciting and fun. Individual workouts should remain consistent, though, so that clients can measure their performance effectively. To keep things exciting, combining different types of consistent workouts is a great idea!

It’s mid-summer and the vacation season is in full swing. Like many Americans, I celebrated the 4th of July with friends at a pool party. This particular party was at a large pool in Biloxi, MS that is on the grounds of a major hotel-casino facility. The pool was packed for the holiday. Unfortunately for our group, which consisted of athletes of all types and fitness enthusiasts, smoking is allowed at this facility which is open to the public for a fee. The secondhand smoke permeated all of the air surrounding that pool. It was disgusting.

One of the greatest advantages of yoga and other isometric types of workouts is the benefits that are gained from exercise without the wear and tear of high impact movement. Indoor cycling and rowing provide solid zero impact workouts too. Infrared heat makes low impact training even more attractive due to the workout recovery component that it adds to the fitness equation.

I hear of people who complain about that “thing” that has grown to incredible heights and has been around for a long time that they should have bought stock in years ago, or that they should have bought the franchise for before they sold out of territory. I’ve already written about the importance of setting up an event as a motivator for your fitness program. This topic is so important, though, I feel that it is worthy of a second blog post. In my years as an entrepreneur I have found that nothing, not even cash, motivates people more than a trip incentive for extraordinary productivity. For example, our franchise company is currently incentivized by a potential trip to Jamaica for top performers. We will see who will be on that Superstar Trip later this year!

I can’t imagine anyone who wouldn’t want a better workout in a shorter amount of time. This is why we created the 3-Dimensional workout. When you add elements of (D1) heat and (D2) infrared energy to your (D3) workout, then you can accomplish way more in less time.

As a fitness trainer with many years of one-on-one and small group training experience, I can certainly understand how the thought of relinquishing in-person training to a virtual instructor would cause angst throughout the personal training industry. What we have found, though, is that customers love the virtually instructed workouts with small groups of three people.

Today I had an amazing workout at the original HOTWORX Studio here in beautiful Oxford, MS. I started with the FX Zone for an awesome functional back and bicep workout utilizing the Myokore suspension straps for back and a combination of dumbbells, suspension straps, and bands for biceps. Then, after a short break, I jumped in the infrared HOTWORX sauna for a perfect 15 minute total body blast of cardio (and resistance) training with the cross-rower.

Two things really annoy me when I see them practiced by personal trainers and fitness instructors of all types of exercise. One, many trainers just ignore the importance of flexibility as a component of each workout and the second thing that really gets under my skin is when instructors advise clients that they must do something different EVERY time they workout. Injuries happen frequently due to this schizophrenic approach to training.

Many of you may have experienced how free your mind can become at the end of a great isometric workout such as hot yoga. I find that there is no better way to begin a work day than with a great hot yoga or pilates session.
