I don’t mean to brag, but HOLY CRAP man…the calorie after-burn from a HOTWORX workout is tremendous. I’ll just use myself and my Apple Watch as proof. I am 5’ 10”, 185 lbs., fit and 53 years young. My results for the last two sessions in the HOTWORX here in New Orleans went like this:HOTWORX Hot Yoga 30 min. workout = 388 calories burnedAfter-burn for the next hour and 15 minutes = 545 calories burnedTotal in 1 hour and 45 minutes = 933 calories burnedHOTWORX Hot Iso 30 min. workout = 440 calories burnedAfter-burn for the next hour = 249 calories burnedTotal in 1 hour and 30 minutes = 689 calories burnedThose are excellent workout results for a person my age. When infrared heat is combined with isometrics the after-burn is intense, as you can see. This is one of the reasons why so many people are seeing tremendous weight loss results with HOTWORX!Compare that to the results for a person weighing 185 lbs. who practices 30 minutes of traditional Hatha Yoga. They can expect to burn 178 calories during that yoga session and that same person will burn 78 calories while working at their desk for 30 minutes.http://www.health.harvard.edu/diet-and-weight-loss/calories-burned-in-30-minutes-of-leisure-and-routine-activitiesGive your members a fitness jolt three times a week with supercharged 30 minute hot workouts! Your customers will see that massive calories can be burned in a short period of time, especially when they count the after-burn. So encourage your clients to get a sports watch that can measure their heart rate and watch them brag about the after workout burn!

HOTWORX AFTER-BURN!!!

I don’t mean to brag, but HOLY CRAP man…the calorie after-burn from a HOTWORX workout is tremendous. I’ll just use myself and my Apple Watch as proof. I am 5’ 10”, 185 lbs., fit and 53 years young. My results for the last two sessions in the HOTWORX here in New Orleans went like this:HOTWORX Hot Yoga 30 min. workout = 388 calories burnedAfter-burn for the next hour and 15 minutes...

As I have travelled coast to coast visiting gyms, clubs and spas that have installed HOTWORX infrared saunas, one thing that I hear from the customers at all of these locations is how the HOTWORX workouts have elevated their quality of life. I have heard this from yoga instructors, professional athletes, doctors, fitness competitors, police officers and mom/daughter teams. No matter what the physical goal is from an athlete to a working mom, this revolutionary new workout program delivers the desired results.I ran into Stephanie Murphy in Cleveland, OH, who is a police officer and a yoga instructor. She said HOTWORX “deepens my practice with the heat and the sweat [and] the isometrics.” She uses the Hot Iso workout to improve her yoga teaching skills. She says that the 30 minute workout is “just right for that type of heat.”

Better Life Quality

As I have travelled coast to coast visiting gyms, clubs and spas that have installed HOTWORX infrared saunas, one thing that I hear from the customers at all of these locations is how the HOTWORX workouts have elevated their quality of life. I have heard this from yoga instructors, professional athletes, doctors, fitness competitors, police officers and mom/daughter teams.

The more you hydrate during a workout in the sauna, the more you sweat. The more you sweat, the more you detox. Make sure you hydrate properly. By that I mean keep your sports drink shaker next to you and drink plenty and whenever you need to.While utilizing an infrared sauna, you should make sure that you keep water on hand during the session. Drink at least 12 oz. during a 30 minute session, and replace electrolytes after your session with a good sports drink. If you prefer, you can drink electrolytes before, during and after the sauna session as a part of your hydration method.“If your nutrition is complete and you hydrate yourself properly in the sauna, you’re not likely to create a mineral or electrolyte deficiency through recreational sauna use a few times a week.” http://www.the-infrared-sauna-effect.com/dangers-of-the-infrared-sauna.htmlSweat composition varies per person. An average liter of sweat contains 20mg of Calcium, 50mg Magnesium, 1150mg Sodium, 230mg Potassium and 1480mg Chloride. Electrolyte replacement drinks should have these plus a small amount of carbohydrates to aid in the electrolyte replacement process. Try a good sports drink. Gatorade and Powerade work well or you can try a specialty powder formulation to mix in your sports drink shaker. PB Clean Energy is an excellent powder formulation for energy and for electrolytes. Click here for more info: http://www.planetbeachshop.com/pb-clean-energy.htmlThe revolutionary new HOTWORX infrared/isometric workout program provides an excellent workout at 125 degrees for a 30 minute session. With any type of workout it is important to hydrate properly while training. Make sure to keep plenty of water and/or a sports drink by your workout mat and hydrate professionally to enhance the effectiveness of your workout session!Fitness club and spa owners should provide good hydration options for their clients. As an owner or manager, make sure that you have quality bottled water and a good option for an electrolyte replacement beverage for sale.

Electrolyte Hydration!

The more you hydrate during a workout in the sauna, the more you sweat. The more you sweat, the more you detox. Make sure you hydrate properly. By that I mean keep your sports drink shaker next to you and drink plenty and whenever you need to.

The answer is yes, there is a connection. Don’t let anyone tell you that there is NO detox through sweating. The real debate is over how much detoxification occurs through sweating. As cited by Elizabeth Renter at naturalsociety.com, one study “published in 2011 in the Archives of Environmental and Contamination Toxicology explained there is more than one way for the body to rid itself of harmful toxins:‘Toxic elements were found to differing degrees in each of blood, urine, and sweat. Serum levels for most metals and metalloids were comparable with those found in other studies in the scientific literature. Many toxic elements appeared to be preferentially excreted through sweat. Presumably stored in tissues, some toxic elements readily identified in the perspiration of some participants were not found in their serum. Induced sweating appears to be a potential method for elimination of many toxic elements from the human body.’Renter goes on to report that, “In 2012, researchers with the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute provided a meta-analysis on 24 studies and found that arsenic, lead, mercury, and cadmium weren’t only present in sweat but often present in greater concentrations than within urine or blood (where such toxins are usually measured). They determined, quite simply, that “sweating deserves consideration for toxic element detoxification.”Evidence clearly indicates that detoxification occurs through sweating! Of course, sweating is the body’s cooling system and one could argue that cooling is the primary function of sweating. We do not dispute that. What we do disagree with is the false claim that sweating provides no detoxification. There are some fitness pundits who actually believe that. Common sense should say otherwise…have you experienced a funky smell every once in a while at the gym or perhaps that of a post-workout t-shirt!?Renter adds in her post that, “Bisphenol-A (BPA) is a hormone-disrupting plastic additive that is used in many food packages and found in most Americans. But, researchers found that it is also detected in sweat, and it’s even detected in the sweat of some people with no BPA detected in their blood or urine.”http://naturalsociety.com/sweating-detoxing-body-heavy-metals-more/Need more evidence that sweating promotes detoxification?…Dr. Julian Whitaker, founder of Whitaker Wellness Institute, states that, “These days I’m still a sauna buff, but now I know that dry heat and infrared saunas confer a number of health benefits, from removing toxins to treating congestive heart failure and other cardiovascular conditions.”As Dr. Whitaker goes on to describe the details of sweat, he explains that, “The primary benefits of a sauna is that it induces sweating. Although most of us go to great lengths to avoid sweating, perspiration has two essential functions: It cools you down, and it rids the body of waste products.” He goes on to say, “Sweating mobilizes toxins stored in the fat and enhances their elimination. If you’ve ever been around a heavy smoker or drinker, you know they reek of nicotine or alcohol—it literally pours out of their skin in their sweat. The same is true, although less obvious, of other toxins.”The most profound research that I have read comes from a study of 9/11 first responders to the NYC terrorists attack. Take a look at this excerpt from Whitaker’s article:"From September 2002 through September 2005, more than 500 of these rescue workers, the majority of them firefighters between the ages of 35 and 45, completed this sauna detox program, and the results were astounding. Before Treatment (which averaged 33 days)They missed a median of 2.1 days of work per month,Had 4.4 days of limited activity,Symptom severity scores—which rated 10 systems, including skin, respiratory, emotional, cognitive and musculoskeletal—were high,And half of the participants were taking drugs to manage their symptoms. After TreatmentThe number of days of missed work or limited activity fell to 0.2,Symptom scores dropped dramatically,And 84 percent of participants had discontinued all their drugs because their symptoms had cleared up.They also had significant improvements in thyroid function, balance, reaction time and even IQ!"http://www.drwhitaker.com/health-benefits-of-a-sauna/Without a doubt, exercise and sauna usage to produce sweating helps to get rid of some of the toxins that we breath, eat, touch and even think into our bodies through stress.Again, there is NO debate about whether or not toxins are released through sweat, the debate is over how much is released.Since this is a hotworx.net blog post, I’ll take the liberty to add that there is NO argument whatsoever from thousands of our customers with respect to workout results and how good they feel after a HOTWORX session too. HOTWORX is a new fitness technology and a new style of workout that involves the use of a specially designed infrared sauna and isometric exercise. Perhaps one could say that HOTWORX is a disruptive fitness technology in a similar way that Uber has been to the Taxi cab industry.HOTWORX is not a household name like Uber…yet, and, not all, but some of the fitness “establishments” may look on new technology with skepticism. My recommendation is that everyone should TRY IT as they are sure to be amazed at the session and the results for their clients! Add hot exercise to your training mix.

Sweat and Detox: Is There a Connection?

The answer is yes, there is a connection. Don’t let anyone tell you that there is NO detox through sweating. The real debate is over how much detoxification occurs through sweating.

Why do champions train in extreme conditions? I would submit to you the old adage: What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger! Ok, that sounds extreme for sure, but I am tired of reading and listening to the weak speak of some of the so called fitness gurus out there. For crying out loud, CHALLENGE YOURSELF!I am not advocating recklessness when it comes to working out. No, I am calling for everyone to go at your own BEST PACE and reach your limit without overdoing it.So, why not try working out in an infrared heated environment?! When your body is submitted to above normal temperatures during a workout magic happens. As reported at running.competitor.com…You Become A Better Sweater“…sweat glands fatigue less and the body better distributes sweat.”Cardiovascular Function Improves“Most important, adaptations put less stress on the heart, resulting in a decrease in heart rate at any given intensity and increase in stroke volume”Exercise Performance Increases“The non-acclimatized person will run slower and fatigue faster in heat; but as acclimatization takes place, these negative effects will fade and running capacity and performance will increase…” http://running.competitor.com/2014/07/training/heat-acclimatization-for-runners_12035

Once the body returns to normal climate conditions after heat acclimation, it will perform at a higher level than before!

And there you have it, what we all want for our customers…a better quality of life!Give your clients the opportunity to try heat acclimation with HOTWORX at 125 degrees for 30 minute sessions. Thousands of people are making tremendous fitness gains with their regular weekly HOTWORX isometric routines.

It takes a special person to achieve the highest level of motivation for a workout practicing solo with no other people around. Even when training by yourself, you always achieve a higher level of performance if you have a trainer to push you or if you are simply in a workout environment such as a gym or a park where there are others around. It’s human nature to want to perform at a higher level in front of people or with others close by! You know it’s true. There is evidence to prove this. “New research suggests that group exercise unleashes a flood of chemicals in the brain, triggering the same responses that have made collective activities from dancing and laughter to religion itself such enduring aspects of human culture. For some (but not all) people, finding workout buddies could help turn fitness into a pleasant addiction.” http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/health-and-fitness/fitness/is-group-exercise-better-than-working-out-solo/article4268232/Most fitness centers now provide large or small group exercise programs with professional trainers and instructors. The demand for this type of exercise is very high because people workout harder in a group and have more fun!“Group exercise offers a variety of benefits you might miss out on if you choose to work out on your own. Some of the benefits include exposure to a social and fun environment, a safe and effectively designed workout, a consistent exercise schedule, an accountability factor for participating in exercise, and a workout that requires no prior exercise knowledge or experience.” http://www.acsm.org/public-information/articles/2012/01/20/benefits-of-group-exerciseWe kept this in mind when we designed the HOTWORX fitness program. The HOTWORX sauna has proven to be the most profitable machine in the gym! Spas and clubs where it has been installed have seen huge increases in same store sales and in memberships. This 63 square foot hot exercise sauna can service three clients for each 30 minute workout performed at 125 degrees. This small group of three is perfect for hot yoga/pilates/isometrics.The camaraderie of this small group workout makes for good company during the infrared isometrics! Three is company!!

It is easy for anyone to equate sweating with detoxification.  What is not so easily understood is detoxification based on muscle compression.  When you flex your biceps doing curls, you are compressing your muscles and constricting blood flow.  When you relax the flexion you can feel the flush of the constricted blood flow release.    When this happens toxins are flushed out of the body!

The constant compression and release of an isometric workout is an excellent way to detoxify the body.  When isometric muscle compression is combined with infrared heat, the detox process is supercharged!

Yoga uses isometrics in a sequence and places emphasis on breathing to further promote detox.  According to shape.com, “The right yoga routine can also help you detox your body and mind. As you do these moves, use each inhale to lengthen and each exhale to wring yourself out like a sponge, getting rid of anything you no longer want or need.”  http://www.shape.com/blogs/working-it-out/yoga-poses-detox-naturally

Consider offering hot isometric exercise to your clients and members.  HOTWORX provides a series of 30 minute workouts within a newly designed infrared sauna made specifically for isometrics/yoga/pilates.  For more information on how to bring the HOTWORX program to your market, click here.

Ever feel like a mouse on a wheel when you're on a treadmill? I can’t think of anything more boring for a cardio workout than that! The cool thing about HOTWORX workouts is that while you are focused on the isometric posture sequence as you follow the lead from the virtual instructor, you are actually getting a great cardio workout.Very quickly, from the beginning of the workout inside of the infrared sauna, your heart rate will rise to 75-85% of your heart rate max (subtract your age from the number 220 to determine your max heart rate), and for most of the 30 minute workout your heart rate will remain at that optimum cardio workout level! Wear your Fitbit or Apple watch to track your workout.…and remember, because of the elevated HR level, you will also burn more calories and fat! There is no need to be a mouse on a wheel! Kill the boredom and do cardio without even knowing your doing cardio during a HOTWORX workout. Why not tone up, burn massive amounts of calories, strengthen your body, gain flexibility and balance, detox completely from sweating your butt off!? All in one 30 minute session……and BTW you will be getting a great cardio workout too!I am convinced that HOTWORX provides the most complete 30 minute workout in the industry. If you are a gym or spa owner, this should be music to your ears! Workouts should be quick and fun allowing clients to do more with their day! Consider the advantages of HOTWORX units for your fitness business. Click here to learn more.

If you missed the first ever HOTWORX Conference, you missed a unique workout. It was likely the first large group isometric workout ever in the mid-summer heat on the top of a hotel on the Strip in Las Vegas. The rooftop of the Linq is called the Vortex. Our Virtual Instructors were on hand to deliver a “Taste of HOTWORX” to the workout participants. A portion of Hot Iso, Hot Yoga, Hot Pilates and Hot Buns were combined into one awesome routine for the conference at the Vortex overlooking the Vegas Strip! This workout was delivered as a part of the practical for HOTWORX operator certification. The certification clinic was held that morning in the theater of the Linq.I thoroughly enjoyed presenting the fundamentals of infrared heat and isometrics workout fusion to the group.

Join us next year for the HOTWORX conference in New Orleans downtown at the Harrah’s Hotel and Casino. It is certain to be another good time and a journey in pursuit of hot exercise knowledge! To learn more about how your club or studio can go “beyond hot yoga” and how HOTWORX can benefit your clients, click here. Saunas are great for sweating. We all know the more you sweat, the more you rid your body of toxins. It just makes sense. Sweat it out! We soak up toxins through food, water and the air that we breathe. Sauna sweating can eliminate heavy metals from your system, including lead and arsenic. The evidence is there to prove this.Sweating accelerates detox of certain toxins including heavy metals. “Studies show sweat can concentrate arsenic up to 10 times more than blood, cadmium up to 25 times more than blood, lead up to 300 times more than blood, and mercury somewhat more than blood, leading to effective elimination” http://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-15166/why-sweating-is-the-best-way-to-get-rid-of-toxins.htmlWe need to detox through sweat as a supplement to the toxin removal provided by the liver and blood!A good 30 minute session in a sauna can do wonders to rid the body of toxins…not to mention, we all know how good it feels to bathe in the heat of a sauna. The Finns are generally attributed with development of modern sauna usage. At one point in their history they considered the sauna so sacred that they actually bore their children inside of it. For the Finnish culture, the sauna is a communal event and considered to be a cleansing shower for the body from the inside out.The modern sauna practice is evolving. Many health clubs and spas offer sauna therapy to their members, and now many clubs are considering some version of hot exercise such as hot yoga, or exercise using a sauna. Remember, heat causes sweat and sweat = detox. Health club members want detox.HOTWORX provides the first ever fusion of isometrics and infrared heat for three clients to practice 30 minute workouts inside of a patent pending newly designed sauna. If you enjoy a sauna, you should also try working out in one if you really want to get your sweat on.Working out in a sauna is now gaining popularity thanks to HOTWORX. Infrared sauna heat is ideal for working out. The temperature should be kept to 120-125 degrees. Trust me, you will drop some serious sweat for a 30 minute workout in this infrared environment. The cleaner infrared heat penetrates deeper into the skin causing even more sweat as compared to older convection heat saunas. You can achieve serious sweat when you combine your workout with your sauna therapy. If you are a club owner consider promoting the detox of sweat through infrared sauna workout programs.

As a fitness entrepreneur I am always looking for ways to give my clients the very most out of each visit to the gym or spa. Let’s face it, time is the most valuable commodity in life. On average, we all have a little more than 80 years worth of time on this planet. What we do with our time is important, to say the least! How we use our gym time can greatly enhance our longevity (and quality) of life so that we can beat the 80+ year average. Therefore, it stands to reason, as fitness business owners, we should find ways to give the most amount of benefit from the workout time that we sell to our customers. Our clients and members deserve the best workout time that we can deliver! In my opinion, for the average fitness client, 30 minutes is the perfect amount of workout time.If you can’t get it done in 30 minutes, then time has been wasted! What matters most is the quality of the workout time! The goal is to give the very best half-hour of fitness possible. If delivered properly, thirty minutes of isometrics, flexibility and infrared heat can deliver the most results to your clients in 30 minutes, by far.Isometrics performed in a 120-125 degree infrared environment for 30 minutes will supercharge the detox process too. Not to mention, outside of infrared/isometrics fusion, there is no other program that can provide accelerated recovery while you are actually working out!So, give serious consideration to how you manage workout time for your clients and members. Give them the most results possible for the time they spend in your fitness facility. Your bottom line will thank you.Take a moment to look into the HOTWORX infrared workouts!

Workout Time: The Perfect 30 Minutes

As a fitness entrepreneur I am always looking for ways to give my clients the very most out of each visit to the gym or spa. Let’s face it, time is the most valuable commodity in life. On average, we all have a little more than 80 years worth of time on this planet. What we do with our time is important, to say the least! How we use our gym time can greatly enhance our longevity (and quality) of life so that we can beat the 80+ year average.

Last week’s blog was all about no wasted space. This week it is about no wasted time. Time is just as important as space to a bricks and mortar business owner, especially a fitness business owner. Make every effort to maximize space and time with your business. Space + Exercise + Intensity + Time = Results in this business. It just makes good business sense to provide the perfect “30” minute workout. As a fitness business owner, why not try 30 minutes instead of 60, or 90 if you can achieve the same level of customer satisfaction? It just makes sense. Why should a customer have to spend 60 or 90 minutes of her life working out when she can reap the same, or even more benefits in 30 minutes? I have experienced packed hot yoga studios with 50 people squeezed into a room for 90 minutes and it is not a good time. I began to think, “why do I have to do this? There has to be a faster way to get the results and to have a better workout experience!” Many of us simply do not have the luxury of time and even if we did, we want a better workout experience for sure. This is why I knew that the HOTWORX routine had to be based on a 30 minute workout. Given the right studio climate and the proper level of intensity, 30 minutes is the perfect amount of time for a workout. The type of heat is supremely important. Infrared heat is by far the best for workouts (we will save this topic for another blog post). Infrared heat ranging 120-125 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal when combined with isometrics for the perfect 30 minute workout.Save time! Don’t waste your time with 60 and 90 minute workouts if you can create the perfect 30 minute workout for your clients! Consider HOTWORX for your business.

We created the HOTWORX hot exercise system for business owners to improve their bottom line by improving the waistline of their customers. HOTWORX (formerly Hot Box Detox) is a workout system based on “hot exercise,” a term that we coined right here on this blog. We use a patent pending infrared sauna system to service three clients at a time for their isometric workout needs. As an entrepreneur that has owned gyms and spas since the 80’s, I can certainly appreciate good use of space to generate income. In fact, I would argue that income per square foot is the most important metric for a brick and mortar business. We invented the HOTWORX sauna and suite of hot workouts to bring “cha ching” to your cash register (or POS system, as it is known these days) from a very small amount of square footage. Only 63 square foot is needed per HOTWORX sauna. We have seen some huge same store sales increases with only one unit, but we have seen some outrageous numbers when gym and spa owners install multiple units side by side.Focus on your income per square foot. Every square inch must be accounted for! Every square inch should contribute to the success of your business! Is that real estate contributing to positive results for your members and clients? I am a firm believer in NO WASTED SPACE!From one fitness entrepreneur to another, you should join the hot exercise revolution and totally maximize your workout space with HOTWORX system saunas!

And, of course, the name should have a coolness factor. Therefore, we have made the decision to change the name of Hot Box Detox to HOTWORX. Visit the website tomorrow to see what we have done. This is a very exciting time to be involved with our system of hot exercise. It’s about to get real folks! Our patent pending sauna was originally designed remains based on isometric workouts. The name Hot Box Detox does not emphasize the “workout” aspect of the sauna. Detox is a by-product of the actual product in the same way that muscle toning, flexibility and workout recovery are by-products from use of our innovative workout sauna. It is the infrared sauna combined with isometrics that make up the product itself and therefore the name should reflect that. Through blogging and social media our company has coined “hot exercise” as the activity that is practiced with our new patent pending machine. HOTWORX, our new product name, now reflects that perfectly. We have a suite of hot exercise workouts under the family name HOTWORX!Return to the website later today!

EVERYTHING IS IN A NAME...

Everything is in a name. The name of anything should reflect its true essence. Product naming is a problem solving exercise meant to discover a “title” through meaning with the highest level of creativity and originality. And, of course, the name should have a coolness factor. Therefore, we have made the decision to change the name of Hot Box Detox to HOTWORX.

Most hot yoga and hot pilates studios use traditional heating methods that simply heat up the air in the room. The original hot workout idea was to recreate the climate in India at around 104 degrees and 40% humidity. While this may be closer to the climate in India, it is not the best environment for working out. Infrared heat is the same as the heat that radiates from the sun and it provides for a much drier studio and, therefore, much more comfortable for workouts. The same is true for saunas. In a traditional sauna, it is very difficult to breathe at times because the heat is not radiant like the sun. Rather, it is convection heat, or simply hot air made that way by traditional heaters that heat the room air rather than your body. The traditional sauna causes you to sweat because the air is hot. Infrared heat causes sweat because the body is absorbing radiant heat and is not just being heated externally. If you want to try hot exercise you should always consider the heat source. Most hot yoga studios simply heat the room with traditional heaters from the HV/AC unit or standard space heaters. It is much more comfortable and beneficial to perform hot exercise in infrared heat versus the old school convection heated air. Why not benefit from the healing properties of infrared while you’re working out!? Leave the convection heat behind and opt for infrared when it is available to you. Try the new Hot Box Detox infrared sauna made for three clients to workout together. The Hot Box Detox uses isometrics in combination with 120-130 degrees of infrared heat providing an outstanding 30 minute hot exercise program.

THE RIGHT HEAT FOR WORKOUTS

Hyperthermic conditioning is a fancy way to describe the positive thing that happens to your body when you acclimate it to heat while working out in the Hot Box Detox sauna. Working out has its obvious benefits, but when combined with heat acclimation, wonderful fitness advantages begin to happen as your body adapts to the heat!“These adaptations include increased plasma volume and blood flow to your heart and muscles (which increase athletic endurance) along with increased muscle mass due to greater levels of heat-shock proteins and growth hormone.” https://www.lewrockwell.com/2014/05/joseph-mercola/promote-muscle-growth-longevity-new-brain-cells/According to Dr. Rhonda Perciavalle Patrick, who originated the term “hyperthermic conditioning”, two 15-minute sauna sessions separated by a 30-minute cooling period may boost your HGH by five-fold. I encourage you to read her findings: http://fourhourworkweek.com/2014/04/10/saunas-hyperthermic-conditioning-2/This is the only way to go…an all natural HGH boost through hyperthermic conditioning!Workout in a sauna folks! The patent pending Hot Box Detox originated the hot exercise infrared sauna… I just finished a great Hot Box Detox workout and I feel awesome…back to the science…In her article, Dr. Patrick summarizes her point by highlighting three areas of benefit from acclimating the body to heat stress (“hyperthermic conditioning”) via use of a sauna. These areas include: enhanced endurance, increased muscle gains through a massive release of growth hormone, and greatly improved brain function. She comments brilliantly, as she begins to summarize, with the fact that increased stress to the body through working out “somewhat paradoxically” causes the body “to become more resilient to stress through stress itself.”The bottom line…You should add hyperthermic conditioning to your athletic training or general fitness routine. Hot Box Detox can provide the hyperthermic conditioning that you need.Have a hot workout!

One of the many benefits that can be obtained from hot exercise is massive calorie burn. How to lose weight is no secret. You lose weight when you burn off more calories than you consume. There are things that you can do to enhance the calorie burning process, however. A hot room temperature during exercise is the best workout method for this. When your body acclimates to a hotter environment it creates a positive training effect that enables a person to achieve greater results, and yes, you will burn more calories!“You burn more fat and calories and can exercise longer when you do so in warm temperatures, according to the American Council on Exercise.” http://www.livestrong.com/article/526014-does-your-body-burn-more-calories-if-you-are-hot-or-if-you-are-cold/“Hot and cold environments also impact your REE (resting energy expenditure) and can increase the amount of calories you burn, because of greater demands on your body to maintain a steady temperature.” http://www.livestrong.com/article/526014-does-your-body-burn-more-calories-if-you-are-hot-or-if-you-are-cold/Watch this video from Sgt. With the presidential election process in full swing, it makes me think about the burning issues of the day, like climate change, for instance. No matter what you think about it politically, for good or for bad, the planet is getting hotter. That being the case, we should all think about adapting to a new climate. It can’t hurt to start with evolving your workout environment and incorporating hot exercise into your weekly routine.Global warming is one thing, but some added heat to your fitness is another very good thing! Allowing your body to adapt to a new environment, like a hotter temperature during your workout is a good way to rev up your metabolism. Adapting your body to a hotter workout “climate” can actually be “anabolic” for muscle development and very positive for your goal attainment. If you want to learn more, check out an article that I wrote a couple months ago.http://planetbeach.com/blog/general/sauna-anabolic/In one study, published by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (U.S. National Library of Medicine 8600 Rockville Pike, Bethesda MD, 20894), “USA elite cyclists who hit a chilled space after acclimating to a 104-degree lab showed improvements in performance by 4 to 8 percent. The study shows that working out in high heat can improve physical performance because of the human ability to adapt to elevated temperatures. Lorenzo S, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20724560 . The website greatist.com states that, “These data demonstrate that heat acclimation improves aerobic exercise performance in temperate-cool conditions and provide the scientific basis for employing heat acclimation to augment physical training programs.” http://greatist.com/fitness/are-hot-workouts-safeThe fitness world could benefit from a move to hot exercise. I am happy to announce that we are now releasing two new HBX videos! These two are not just revisions of our original “Hot Iso” 14 posture full-body isometric workout. These videos open up two new workout categories for Hot Box Detox, one for laser focused glute work and one for self-myofacial release/deep tissue massage. Ideally, for clients, the two new videos will serve as a supplement to the original Hot Iso workout.Hot Buns…Hot Buns was created for one purpose and that is to get your BUTT in shape! We expect this intense isometric glute workout to be in high demand for HBX clients. Imagine 30 minutes of nothing but BUTT isometrics, yes only BUTT isometrics inside of the Hot Box Detox sauna at 125 degrees fahrenheit! You will work your glutes hard while you sweat out the toxins and absorb the rejuvenating infrared energy. For those who want a great butt workout to add to their fitness routine, then HOT BUNS is rear-end-tensity for real…

Hot Buns

The idea for Hot Roll was inspired from the practice that many athletes now perform with foam rollers for workout recovery. Hot Roll provides deep tissue massage in a unique, yet structured full-body format led by a virtual instructor in a 30 minute infrared sauna environment. HBX clients can use this session once per week to rid their muscles of the tension and knots that restrict movement, cause stress and impair workout recovery. Of course, with the infrared heat there is even more muscle relaxation as clients move through the myofacial release from the foam rollers. One major added benefit from Hot Roll is that you can smooth out the knotted fascia to reduce cellulite!!!

The Hot Box Detox isometric/infrared fusion workout was inspired by Bikram Yoga. I used to practice Bikram and it is an awesome program if you have 90 minutes for it. Now I practice the 30 minute Hot Box Detox twice per week as a supplement to my weight training program. One of the reasons that I liked Bikram was its discipline to 26 set postures. With the set postures, you are able to easily know how you are progressing from session to session. Progress is made for each posture, in each subsequent session with respect to balance, flexibility and endurance and it is easy for clients to measure. Without measurement of progress, a fitness program is just left hanging without purpose. This is where I get angry with some of the popular fitness programs. Some trainers would have you believe that you should change your workout EVERY time so as to confuse your body into making gains. There is some merit to that for certain types of high-level training. However, gradual change, let’s say quarterly like Hot Box Detox, is a more effective way to achieve steady progress. I call it incremental adaptation training.I agree with Colby Smith, founder of FierceStrength.com. In one of his blog articles he states that, “The key to being able to continually progress without ever hitting this plateau is finding an effective balance between progressive overload and muscle confusion (or periodization).” http://www.fiercestrength.com/muscle-confusion/I believe that a workout routine should be revised sensibly, meaning incrementally, on a quarterly basis. We revise our workout videos on a quarterly basis for Hot Box Detox, and we stick to the fundamental postures that are necessary for our clients to measure their progress. These are wall sits, isometric squats, and planks to name a few. Incremental adaptation to sensible routine change is the best way to go to achieve steady and continual progress.Focus on how high you can take your intensity level for each exercise first before changing it. There is no need to confuse your muscles or yourself.“As the body becomes accustomed to a specific exercise training level (cardio or strength), it can then adapt to a higher workload or intensity as stated in the Principle of Progressive Overload. This principle states that the intensity required to produce a training effect needs to be higher then what was already achieved. Simply put, overload is the act of subjecting your muscles (including your heart) to unaccustomed stress. Once the body has adapted to a certain level of intensity, further adaptation will not take place unless that intensity level is increased.” https://einmotion.wordpress.com/tag/bikram-yoga/So, don’t fall into the popular trap of changing the workout every time. Consider your level of intensity and your level of awareness as you step up your game. Attempt to perfect your workout with specific postures or with specific exercises as a way to know how much better you are performing each time!Try a routine of consistent isometrics with a solid sequence of postures for at least one full 90 day run before changing the exercises. You will see the gains through easy measurement and increased mind body connection. Connect with your body mentally and take it through a flexibility, balance and endurance transformation. Hot Box Detox can provide you with this type of routine and you can experience it all inside of an environment with 120-125 degrees of infrared!!

The Hot Box Detox team just concluded its first IHRSA (North America’s Largest Fitness Industry Trade Show) yesterday with an incredible response from the industry that will require a great follow up effort to ensure that all of the club, gym and spa owners receive their new HBX units very soon. Hot Box Detox is quickly gaining coast-to-coast recognition and installations are now scheduled as far north as Alaska, and internationally to the countries of Poland, Panama and Saudi Arabia! As I was thinking about the after show work that needs to be done with all of the new HBX owners from IHRSA, it reminded me of the after-burn effect from a good workout. I’m always thinking about how to get great workouts. I suppose that just about anything can make my mind circle back to that topic, LOL.One really awesome thing about the Hot Box Detox workouts is the after-burn. What I mean by the after-burn is this. When you finish a good isometric session in 120-125 degrees infrared environment, you continue to burn calories at an accelerated rate as your body recovers from the workout as it cools down from the heat. The more intensity you have with the workout, the higher your level of after-burn!Of course, working out with infrared heat really amps up your metabolism. Try measuring the afterburner with your Fitbit or Apple Watch following your HBX session. You will be surprised how many calories you continue to burn after the workout. Why does this happen?According to livestrong.com, “Intense physical activity creates an oxygen deficit. The after-burn effect, also known as excess post-exercise oxygen consumption, occurs when your body continues to burn calories after you exercise to replenish oxygen stores in the muscles while you are recovering. This process increases your metabolism, which is also marked by an increase in blood flow, as your body regulates its temperature back to a pre-exercise state. The more intensely you work out, the longer your body takes to recover.”Incorporate the Hot Box Detox into your fitness program and begin to benefit from the AFTER-BURN!

Let’s give credit where credit is due. Exercise combined with heat has been popularized by the hot yoga movement for sure. Most hot yoga studios, such as Bikram practice at a temperature of 104 or 105 degrees Fahrenheit (convection heat, or in other words heated air in the room) and with a humidity level of 40% so as to re-create the climate of India where yoga originated. Aside from the attempt to give the feel of India in the classes, greater flexibility is the main reason given as to the purpose for heating the yoga studio. No doubt, exercising in any heated environment will provide for greater flexibility during the workout but it is not the only benefit from a properly heated workout environment.I have taken Bikram and it is an excellent practice. However, consider the quality of the air in the room. While it may replicate the feel of India, it is not optimal for “hot exercise” and it is because of the “old school” room heating methods (traditional central heating, wall or space heaters).Enter the HBX-Factor…Workouts in a hot environment created from infrared heaters yield many benefits beyond the typical hot yoga studio environment including greatly accelerated workout recovery and detox along with improved metabolic efficiency. Additionally, the air is much more comfortable to breath for workouts in infrared heat. The Hot Box Detox infrared sauna creates a superior Hot Exercise environment for a small group of three people to enjoy. It is inexpensive to set up and only takes up a small amount of the real estate. This mini-studio yields a very high revenue return for only 63 square feet of space. We have documented same store sales monthly revenue increases from 20 to over 100% recently.Hot exercise can be huge to any fitness or wellness facility’s real estate efficiency using the Hot Box Detox (HBX) infrared saunas. It can be the new success X-Factor, or HBX-Factor for any club, gym or spa!
